What You Need To Know About Copyright Images

If you’re thinking about using Bright Star Prints custom printing service, but you’re worried about what kind of images you’re allowed to upload, then you’ve come to the right place. We’ll help you understand what you definitely cannot use and what you might want to double check first.

Please note that this is only a simple guide and only skims the surface of the complexity of this topic. We advise you to do further research if you would like to know more about it.

Images you 100% CANNOT use

You cannot upload an imagery that contains designs or characters from companies like Disney or Marvel characters such as Frozen, Winnie the Pooh or Spiderman.

You also cannot use trademark logos from brands such as Nike, Starbucks, big sports teams like NRL, gaming brands like Minecraft and of course famous band logos like ACDC.

We also like to try and keep the content that we print for you pretty PG, so we encourage people to only print things that you might be happy for your Grandma to see. There’s a bunch of stuff that we may not be able to print, which you can see at the bottom of this page.

But what about if I bought the file from Etsy or another seller?

Sorry, even if you do buy it from someone who is selling digital prints, it is still illegal for you to get it printed and it is illegal for us to print it. These sellers do not own the rights to these licensed images and therefore it is illegal for them to sell it to you too. If you have bought one of these files, you should ask for a refund and report the seller to Etsy.

Can I use images I find on Google?

You might find some images on Google that you think you can use in your custom prints. It’s safe to say that 99% of the time you shouldn’t do this as it’ll also be illegal. Just because an image can be found in Google Images, does not mean that you can use it.

Also be aware that there are lots of stock images from websites like Shutterstock, that have their logo watermarked on top of the image.

It is illegal to print these images. However, when you see these watermarked images, you can go to the actual website and buy the image so that you can use it on your crafts. Each website will have its own rules, but usually for personal use you’ll find that it’s safe to use.

Images you can use

There are a million incredible things that you can upload, so let your imagination run wild! You can use your own photos, artwork and designs without any issues.

And, you can also utilise thousands and thousands (probably millions) of stunning designs and photos that are ready for you to use on websites like Canva or Creative Fabrica. The majority of these are available for you to use in your personal projects and most can even be used for commercial purposes. To be sure, we always recommend you check the terms and conditions from each seller.

You can also upload logos from small businesses or local sports clubs that have requested you to create crafts or supplies for their own use. You cannot use any logos without permission from the owner.
